Gun Control Is The Second Leading Cause Death For Teenagers

There once was a man named Jimmy. Jimmy was a good guy at heart but, like the majority of people, did not know how to properly handle a gun. He had recently bought a gun and went shooting with his friends even though he did not know how to use a gun. For a little while they were having a blast, then while jimmy was messing around, he pretended to shoot at his friends but accidently pulled the trigger and his friends died. While in shock, Jimmy dropped the gun which fired upon hitting the ground and then Jimmy died. The moral of the story, Guns should be restricted to law enforcement not only because stupid people get themselves killed,but because with less guns there is also less crime, guns cause more bad than good, the current way to†¦show more content†¦The problem that occurs with the staggering amount of guns in circulation, 1.8 per household or approximately 70 million guns, is that when they are illegally acquired there is a higher rate that a crime with that gun will occur. In fact, Daniel Webster, Director of the John Hopkins University Center for Gun Policy and Research in Baltimore recently stated, â€Å"While recent gun sales haven’t led to an increase in crime, research indicates that over time, higher levels of gun ownership are associated with increased rates of homicide and suicide.† Gun ownership also carries the increased risk of being injured or killed. In fact, people who carry guns are 4.5 times more likely to be shot and 4.2 times as likely to get killed compared with unarmed citizens. According to the Huffington Post in addition to the thousands of annual murders, roughly 22,000 people die accidentally or by suicide. In addition to accidental shootings, when guns are accessible in a home when a domestic dispute occurs, the aggressor is more likely to grab a gun. Also it is hard to predict when adversity, such as financial or health crisis befalls a gun owner, that he or she might take more drastic measures when a gun is accessible in their home or business. An important step in reducing violent crimes is taking a proactive approach to limit access of firearms to criminals.
